IMPORTANT NOTE REGARDING MAKING TAX DIGITAL
From 6th April 2026, Making Tax Digital (MTD) comes into effect for Sole Trader businesses. From this date, if your turnover is over £50k per annum, MTD will apply to you. This means you will be required to report quarterly, and digitally. A spreadsheet will no longer suffice for your accounting under the MTD set up, instead you will need to use a compliant Software. You can learn more here. For sole traders with turnover less than £50k per annum, a spreadsheet will suffice for tax year 2026-27. From 6th April 2027, sole trader businesses with a turnover in excess of £30,000 per annum will be required to submit quarterly under MTD rules.
